After a weekend home sweep over Minnesota State Moorhead and Northern State, the St. Cloud State Soccer team is no longer a sleeper team looking to make it to this year’s NSIC women’s soccer tournament, they are in a position to be one of the top seeds.

Junior forward Hannah Marion’s consistent scoring and three shutouts from freshman goalkeeper Zoe Welsh have been just two of the critical impacts SCSU has needed to be in the position they are today. That is, sitting a top one of the best four teams in the NSIC with 17 conference points. Not to mention the back line combination that St. Cloud State has to offer has shut down opposing attacks all season long.

With three weeks remaining in the regular season, consistent play for the Huskies will keep them in contention of a heavily coveted playoff spot. Three of the last six games of the season are at home, where SCSU has not lost all season. Points on the road will be critical, where the Huskies only have two wins and one draw.

Under Gretta Arvesen in her fifth year as head coach of the Huskies, SCSU has made it to the playoffs three times, but have never earned a postseason win.

St. Cloud State travels on the road this weekend, facing the bottom of the table Upper Iowa, and then traveling for a tough road game against Winona State. The Warriors certainly are a hungry team also in desperation pushing for a playoff spot.
