Going into the final two weekends of the season, the Huskies were looking at a schedule featuring their last 3 of 4 games of the season at home at Husky Stadium, where the Huskies are unbeaten in 2018 season.

On a weekend celebrating homecoming and the senior class of the program, the Huskies soccer team did not disappoint.

Friday afternoon the Huskies dominated Sioux Falls by a 2-0 final to earn their 5th NSIC win of the season. First half scoring continued to be the strength for the Huskies, as Mallory Mollenhauer found the back of the net off a header from a Brooke Bares corner for the opening goal.

Later in the first half against the Cougars, senior Maria Witte laced home a penalty kick to make it 2-0 Huskies, but not effort an outstanding effort in the box from Brooke Bares drew the penalty kick. USF would have no response, as the Huskies would walk away with a  2-0 win over the Cougars. SCSU ended the match out shooting USF 20-8. Freshman goalkeeper Zoe Welsh earned her 4th shutout of the season with 3 saves in the win.

The dominance at Husky Stadium would lead right into Sunday, as six seniors were honored before the match began. Kelli Santo Paulo, Alexa Starr, Maria Kass, Maria Witte, Kelsey Christian and Sara Magno were recognized for their outstanding efforts in one of the strongest senior classes SCSU has ever seen.

In the match against SMSU,  it again did not take long for the Huskies to get on the board, as the Huskies would earn their second penalty kick of the weekend. Again, senior stepped up and fired home the penalty kick goal setting a program record for number of penalty kick goals in a season, as the goal was Witte’s fifth. A minute and a half in, SCSU opened yet another home match with a 1-0 lead.

SMSU continued its tough play throughout the end of the first half and into the second, but again the Huskies were lighting up the stats sheet with a multitude of shots against SMSU keeper Jenna Meyer.

Late in the second half, the Huskies would again find one of the biggest goals of the season, as Maria Witte would put away a loose ball from a corner kick and an assist by Maria Kass for her sixth goal of the season.  This would put the Huskies up 2-0, and that would be the final score for SCSU earning their 7th conference win of the season.

With 24 NSIC points heading into the final record and a record of 7-3-3, St. Cloud State currently sits 4th in the NSIC table which would earn them a home playoff game on October 31st. With still work to be done, the Huskies host Minot State this coming Friday at Husky Stadium who sit right under the Huskies at 5th in the conference with 23 conference points.

The Huskies will wrap up the season versus U-Mary, who also have playoff implications sitting 7th looking to stay alive with three teams underneath them at 19 conference points.
