With a pair of home matches over the weekend, the St. Cloud State women’s soccer team earned two conference points with a pair of draws vs. Concordia St. Paul and #16 Minnesota-State Mankato.

On Friday, September 21st, the Huskies hosted the 5-0 Concordia St.-Paul Golden Bears. It took more than 90 minutes to decide the contest, as Hannah Marion found her third goal of the year in the 52nd minute. Nicole Friis was awarded the assist.

Concordia – St. Paul’s Jena Berland would find an equalizing goal for the Golden Bears in the 70th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Neither team would find the back of the net for the remainder of the match. After 20 minutes of overtime, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Freshman goalkeeper Zoe Welsh made six saves in net for St. Cloud State. Hannah Marion led the Huskies with two shots.

Sunday, September 23rd, #16 ranked Minnesota State-Mankato came into Husky Stadium as one of the toughest opponents in the NSIC.

It took double overtime to split a 1-1 draw between these two teams in a game that was hard fought and had many chances for both sides to find the back of the net.

The Mavericks scored first in the contest, as Julia Zach found the back of the net in the 18th minute of the first half to put MSU up 1-0. St. Cloud State would respond shortly after, as Hannah Marion would continue her hot scoring streak putting one in the back of the net after a assist from Sally Nelson.

After another strong performance in goal from freshman goalkeeper Zoe Welsh with six saves, a multitude of chances for both sides was not enough. After a double overtime result, the match ended 1-1 between the Huskies and Mavericks.

After the weekend, St. Cloud State sits in 5th place in the NSIC with a conference record of 2-1-2 with 8 conference points. Overall, the Huskies are 2-3-3 on the 2018 season.

St. Cloud State heads back on the road this week, with matchups with Wayne State on Friday September 28th at 3 p.m., and then at Augustana on Sunday September 30th at 1pm.
