The GREAT Theatre Holding An Audition Workshop For Adults

Adults in the St. Cloud area looking to step into the spotlight, well here is your chance!

The GREAT Theatre is holding a free audition preparation workshop. Anyone who auditions can hear feedback about their audition song and hear what the directors are looking for. Volunteers will also be able to meet the production team, as the theatre wants them to be as prepared as possible.

The auditions will be for the Broadway musical My Fair Lady. The workshop will be on Wednesday, June 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Helgeson Learning Lab Theatre in Waite Park. Registration must be in advance and the registration deadline is Monday, June 18 at noon.

Sartell City Council To Hold A Special Meeting That Includes Park Tour

The Sartell City Council will hold a special meeting next week.

The City of Sartell says that the meeting will provide on update on the 2016 comprehensive plan and how it has been implemented. Before the meeting, there will also be a tour of Sauk River Regional Park.

The events will be on Monday, June 18. The tour will start at 5 p.m. followed by the special meeting from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Fire in Spring Hill Township Spreads to Two Different Buildings

A shop fire in Spring Hill Township Tuesday evening left a large amount of damage.

Stearns County Sheriff Don Gudmundson says just after 11 p.m. authorities were called to a shop fire one mile east of Spring Hill Township. 49-year-old Diane Welle says they got home at 9:45 p.m. and the shop appeared normal. Later 18-year-old Raelin Welle looked out the window and noticed their small shop fully engulfed in flames. The fire had eventually spread from the small shop to the larger.

The buildings both sustained heavy damage from the fires, no one was in either building during the fires. The cause of the fire is unknown.

The Johnny Holm Band Comes to St. Cloud to Kick off Summer Time By George

 Summer Time By George is back and they are kicking of the concert season with the Johnny Holm Band.

Starting tonight the St. Cloud Rotary Club will host a free concert every Wednesday this summer at Lake George.  This week’s band is known for their high energy and for engaging with the crowd. The Johnny Holm Band is made up of Midwestern musicians but they tour in nearly every state. Along with live music there will be vendors, artisans, and a kid zone the whole family can enjoy.

This free 12-week event will be held every Wednesday running through August 29th. The fun starts at 5:00 p.m. each night and goes until 9p.m. with the band taking the stage at 6:30.

Three Men Indicted For February Shooting In Sauk Rapids

A central Minnesota grand jury has indicted three men on murder charges in a February shooting that left one man dead and another wounded in Sauk Rapids.

Twenty-six-year-old Nokomis Jefferson, 20-year-old William White Jr. and 37-year-old Vance Laster Sr. each face first-degree murder charges, among other felonies. A Benton County grand jury indicted the men in the shooting death of 25-year-old Joe Ditthideth of St. Cloud.
Prosecutors say Ditthideth and 29-year-old Nathan Phrachomphonh were shot in a suspected drug deal outside of a Sauk Rapids home on Feb. 16. Phrachomphonh was wounded but survived.
The men are being held in Benton County on $1 million bail each. They are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Crash With a Semi-Truck on Highway 23 Sends Two People to The Hospital

A woman is in the hospital with life threatening injuries after her car was struck by a semi-truck Tuesday evening.

Minnesota State Patrol Sergeant Jesse Grabow says the semi was heading north on Highway 23 near the Highway 9 intersection when a southbound car turned onto Highway 9 in front of the semi. The car was driven by 85-year-old Duaine Nelson of New London with 84-year-old Rosella Nelson in the passenger seat.

After being hit by the semi, Nelson’s car ended up in the median of Highway 23. Rosella Nelson is being treated for life threatening injuries at St. Cloud Centracare Hospital and the driver of the semi was brought to Rice Memorial hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Interstate 94 Lane To be Closed By Clearwater Thursday

Attention morning commuters: Interstate 94 will be reduced to a single lane Thursday.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation say a section of east bound I-94 near Clearwater will only be one lane as workers remove contaminated soil left over from a crash. The lane closure will start at 3 a.m. and will reopen at 11 weather permitting.

PBIS Minnesota to Recognize Several St. Cloud Schools

 Several St. Cloud schools are being recognized as “exemplar” by a state wide organization.

The Minnesota Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support group has announced that nine schools in St. Cloud have been recognized as 2018 Sustained Exemplar Schools. Some of the awared schools include Apollo High School, Tech High School, Clearview Elementary School, Westwood Elementary School, and several community schools.

All of the schools will be recognized during the Annual Minnesota PBIS Institute on Wednesday at the Minnesota Department of Education.

Storm Near Sauk Centre Causes Barn Fire

A barn in Raymond Township near Sauk Centre went up in flames on Monday.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office and Sauk Centre Fire Department were sent out just before 2:30 p.m to respond to the fire. They discovered that the fire had been caused by a lightning strike from a thunderstorm. The owners of the barn were identified as 71-year-old Wayne Schlaak and 70-year-old Nancy Schlaak. The barn was moderately damaged.

The barn was empty at the time of the fire, and no one was injured. 

Motorcycle Driver Dies After Going Into Ditch In Meeker County

A motorcycle driver has died after going off the road Sunday evening between Litchfield and Eden Valley.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 57-year-old Leslie Lemke of Watertown, South Dakota was driving south on Highway 22 just before 9:30 p.m. when he went off road on the right side. His motorcycle hit a driveway approach and threw Lemke from the bike.

Lemke was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital where he died from injuries as a result of the crash.

Factory Workers To Get Government Assistance After Large Lay Off

 ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) - Nearly 900 employees who'll be laid off by the planned closure of an Electrolux plant in central Minnesota will have access to additional help.

The U.S. Department of Labor has approved a petition for Trade Adjustment Assistance that'll provide workers long-term training and support when the St. Cloud plant shutters next year.
The program provides assistance to workers laid off from businesses hurt by foreign trade. It also provides job search allowances, relocation assistance, wage subsidies and apprenticeships.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development will manage the program, review worker applications and distribute funds.
The home appliance company announced in January plans to close the St. Cloud facility amid consolidation efforts. The plant employs about 860 workers.

West St. Germain To Close Twice Next Week

St. Cloud drivers planning to drive on West St. Germain Street next week should plan for detours.

The St. Cloud City Engineer's Office says that the traffic lane heading westbound will be closed between 9th and 10th Avenue. The closings are due to work being done at the Paramount Theatre. 

The lane will be closed on Monday, June 11 when signage is removed and will last one day with weather permitting. It will then close again on Thursday, June 14 when the signage is replaced, again lasting one day with weather permitting.

Lemonade Concert and Art Fair Needs Volunteers

St. Cloud State University is hosting its 45th Lemonade Concert and Art Fair, and they are asking for your help.

The university says that there will be over 200 art vendors appearing on campus along with seven local music acts performing at the World Commons Stage Including  a performance by the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra.

Last year's Lemonade Fair  hosted over 12,000 guests, so there is a need for volunteers.

The event is Thursday, June 21. If you want to volunteer for this event, you can call the St. Cloud State Department of Campus Involvement at (320)-308-5691. If you receive a volunteer form, it must be submitted by June 11.

29th Avenue North Will Close For Utility Work

Drivers in North St. Cloud can expect to take detours while a road is closed.

The St. Cloud City Engineer’s Office says that 29th Avenue North between 8th Street North and 9th Street North will be closed for utility company work.

The closure will start on Friday, June 8 and is expected to last only one day with weather permitting.

Drivers Can Expect Delays and Detours On Highway 238 In Albany

Drivers who travel Highway 238 in Albany should expect delays and a detour for upcoming construction.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says that a short segment of the highway will be closed to install new underground utilities, improve pedestrian travel and reconstruct the road. The project will offer a smoother ride and better accessibility.

Drivers can expect to follow the detour along County Road 53/Sixth Street and Soo Line Avenue. The Construction will start Monday, June 11 starting at 5 a.m. and go until mid-September.
