Archived: Man Flees And Fights With Officers Several Times During Arrest

A man in Waite Park was arrested early Thursday morning, but not without putting up a fight.

Waite Park Police Chief Dave Bentrud says just before 3 a.m. police were sent to a suspicious vehicle call in the 400 block of 7th Street South. A man and a woman were inside a vehicle and officers approached them. Police identified

them, and 28-year-old Demtria Hudson of Waite Park gave officers a false name.

While trying to find his license, Hudson ran away on foot. Officers were then able to tackle him, handcuff him, and return him to the squad car. Officers noticed Hudson making suspicious movements with his hands, but then reaffirmed the tightness of the cuffs.

Officers started their way to the jail, meanwhile Hudson was able to remove a hand from his cuffs. He then reached out a window and was able to get out of the back seat. Police then chased after Hudson again. He then turned around and punched an officer in the face. Another officer tackled Hudson to the ground, but Hudson continued to fight officers. He was finally subdued with a taser.

The officer was taken to the hospital for injuries to his elbow, knee and back. Hudson was wanted on a felony warrant for Financial Transaction Card violations and was taken to the Stearns County Jail on the warrant and other charges of 4th degree assault, fleeing a police officer and obstruction of justice.
