Archived: Man Arrested for Controlled Substance During Traffic Stop

A routine traffic stop near Sauk Rapids leads to a drug arrest Monday.

Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck says a patrol sergeant pulled over a car with expired license tabs along Golden Spike Road just east of Sauk Rapids. While speaking with the driver, 61-year-old Virgil Pouliot the officer noticed the passenger, 43-year-old Gregory Borth was showing symptoms that he just used meth. The officer went back to his car and ran a warrant check on both Pouliot and Borth and found that Borth had an active arrest warrant from Stearns County for 5th degree controlled substance crime.

Borth was placed under arrest and searched. The officer found drug paraphernalia, multiple baggies containing what is believed to be methamphetamine, and hypodermic needles. Borth now faces another charge of 5th degree controlled substance crime and a charge of possestion of hypodermic needles and is being held in the Benton County Jail.

Pouliot was cited at the scene for vehicle registration violation and failure to provide proof of insurance.
