Archived: Dog Remains Found Near the Lovell Lake Wildlife Protection Area

Two black labs were found shot dead in a ditch over the weekend prompting an investigation.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s office says they received a call just after 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, reporting two black lab dogs were found fatally shot in the ditch of Lovell Lake Road, north of Albany. The dogs were both full-grown black labs, one male and one female. Upon further investigation, skeletal remains of two other dogs and a cat were found nearby.

The caller says he was in the area at noon and didn’t notice anything suspicious but when they returned at 2 he noticed a wide trail in the ditch. When he took a closer look he found the dogs.

The dog’s remains were taken to the University of Minnesota for necropsy to assist in the investigation. If you have any information about the dogs or the case you are encouraged to contact the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.
