A Benton County detention officer was assaulted last Wednesday morning while doing a routine search.

Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck says at 10 a.m. an officer was doing a routine search of the 33-year-old inmate, Cody Mann of Sauk Rapids, when Mann punched him in the head and injured his shoulder. Jail staff came immediately and subdued Mann. The officer was taken to St. Cloud hospital for his injuries and for an evaluation.

The Benton County Jail as a response was on lockdown for the remainder of the day. Mann was charged with 3^rd degree assault and 4^th degree assault as a result of the incident.
