While celebrating being The Voice of St. Cloud for more than 50 years, KVSC will be opening its doors for an Open House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 10th. Come on down to the basement of Stewart Hall to revel in the nostalgia of Your Sound Alternative with station tours and alumni returning to the airwaves.

This celebration is open to all KVSC alumni, community members and friends.

There's plenty of food, cake and fun to be had by all!

Free parking is available at nearby lots including B, D, I and L lots on the campus of St. Cloud State University. Street parking near the campus will also be free during these times. Additional information including a map of campus parking can be found here.

KVSC Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary with Jazz-Blues-Soul Filled Concert!

Davina and the Vagabonds with the support of Nooky Jones will launch a weekend of celebrating 50 Years of Your Sound Alternative!

Join us on Friday, June 9 at the Red Carpet Night Club for a rollicking night of jazz, blues, soul fueled music and of course... dancing. Admission is just $5, night of the show and this is a 21 and older concert. Doors open at 9 p.m.

Davina and the Vagabonds will land in the Granite City directly following their European tour and help shimmy and shake our 50th Birthday events! Described as having a New Orleans sound, Davina Sowers leads the high energy band on piano.

With influences ranging from Fats Domino and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Aretha Franklin and Tom Waits, the band draws from the last 100 years of American music, and is converting audiences one show at a time.

Come out and celebrate five decades of music and campus and community based radio on 88.1FM, The Voice of St. Cloud!

 

We're  welcoming Nooky Jones to the Red Carpet Nightclub -- with their R&B groove that's been described as "sophisticated, seductive and smooth neo-soul music. Brassy horns and a brassier voice. Nooky Jones is flavorful and mouth-wateringly juicy" by the Star Tribune.

How often do you turn 50, or get to celebrate with soulful music? Come and soak up the vibes on Friday, June 9 at the Red Carpet Nightclub in downtown St. Cloud.

The latest installment features the story of Harry Kent III, a local musician and member of "CloudHeads". Kent's former bandmates Mark "Hazzy" Hasbrouk, Andy Ferkinoff and Karl Konz talk with Arts & Cultural Heritage producer Jeff Carmack about Kent's legacy, music and celebration in his honor. KVSC celebrates its 50th anniversary with a Minnesota-Americana concert!

Your Sound Alternative is presenting Dead Man Winter and The Cactus Blossoms as part of our summer celebration of our Golden Anniversary.

The night of Americana music is Saturday, June 10 at the Pioneer Place Theatre in St. Cloud. Unfortunately, tickets are sold out for this special performance.

Dead Man Winter is a group led by Dave Simonett, best known as one of the founding members of the progressive bluegrass group Trampled by Turtles.

This concert supports his latest critically acclaimed release Furnace that was recorded at Pachyderm Studios. It's a personal album reflecting on the end of his marriage and the process of moving forward.

The Cactus Blossoms are fronted by brothers Jack and Page who deliver an old  soul, vintage sound in lyrics and style as only siblings can do. 

Their album You're Dreaming gained national attention for its harmonies and emotional depth. They're swinging into St. Cloud fresh off their European tour.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Pioneer Place Theatre and is hosted by KVSC in celebration of 50 years of broadcasting at St. Cloud State University.

This concert is funded in part by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy Fund.

Ever wonder whose voice that is on the radio?

While listening to your favorite program on Your Sound Alternative, have you ever wondered who the voice is behind the microphone? That's a great question!

KVSC attracts more than 60 volunteer deejays, so it can be hard to keep up. To see who is hosting your show of choice, check out our Program Guide. If you would like to join the team, visit our training department to learn the steps of becoming a radio host.

So, you heard a song, but missed the DJ telling you what it was called and who sang it.  Don't sweat it. Just go to our Spinitron page.  

Located in the "Listen Live" player on the upper right of all KVSC.org pages, you can see who's on the air and what artist and song is currently playing.  Also, if you click the host's name you can view their profile.  If you click the track name, you can view the entire play list in real-time via spinitron.com

PODCAST: Holocaust Survivor Henry Oertelt

KVSC.org presents an original production--the amazing journey of Holocaust survivor Dr. Henry Oertelt.  The entire podcast series is presented in episodes of the 18 critical events that led to Henry's survival of five Nazi concentration camps and a three day death march.  Henry Oertelt's compelling book, "An Unbroken Chain" was recorded and engineered at the KVSC studios.  KVSC is sincerely honored to be the audio archival source of Dr. Oertelt's eternal message of hope and dignity.
